Domestic Violence / Restraining Orders / Civil Harassment

Domestic violence and Civil Harassment is abuse by way of:

  • physical abuse

  • verbal or nonverbal abuse (psychological abuse, mental abuse, emotional abuse)

  • sexual abuse.

  • stalking or cyberstalking.

  • economic abuse or financial abuse.

  • spiritual abuse.

  • bullying

  • etc...

The difference between domestic violence and civil harassment is the relationship that the abuser and the abused share.  For those that are either biologically related to or in a personal relationship with their abuser, those cases are considered domestic violence.  For those that are NOT biologically related to or in a personal relationship with, those cases are considered civil harassment.

restraining order is a court order that helps protect people from their abuser.

If you are a parent and your child is being abused, you can also file a restraining order on behalf of your child to protect your child (and you and other family members). If your child is 12 or older, he or she can file the restraining order on his or her own.
